What Is Behind the World Series of Poker?

The annual world series of poker is by default THE event of the year for poker players, discover a bit more about the big machine behind the poker tables of the RIO hotel and casino.

When we think WSOP, we think, Las Vegas, the strip casinos, and shows available in the city that never sleeps.

Behind all the glamor and sound of the chips changing from player to player in the several poker rooms of the casinos, we find the team that brings us all the logistics and that makes the annual World Series of poker happen every year.

Here is a bit about them.

It all started with the first event ever at the world series that took place in 1970 hosted by Benny Binion at the Horseshoe casino with 6 poker players this event quickly became worldwide famous and has now thousands of participants from all over the world.

This is proven by the participation in 2011 world series that even after the Black Friday manage to get a participation of 6865 player in the Main Event and an overall participation of 75.672 players competing for more than $192.000.000 in prize accumulated prizepool through the 61 bracelet events.

The WSOP Brand is owned by Caesar's Entertainment since 2004 and takes place at the Rio all-suite Hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main sponsor is a traditional American brand, Jack Link's Beef Jerky.

The event is carried out by Rio's great dealers, casino staff and directed by the tournament director Jack Effel to bring you the best poker playing experience available on live poker events.

This team accumulates years of expertise in hosting this event and makes it all happen smoothly, which i imagine is no easy task considering the numbers involved in the event.

2012 world series will have an additional event exclusive for charity, the Big One for one Drop, this event was announced in 2011 by Guy Laliberte to raise funds for his One Drop Foundation in order to provide water for undeveloped countries.

The main feature of this event is that it will feature the greatest names of poker and a staggering buy in of one million dollars.

Currently, just a couple of weeks away from the event there are 30 players confirmed to participate, among them we can find names like johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu, Jonathan Duhamel, Tom Dwan, Eric Seidel, Justin Smith, Guy Laliberte, Andy Beal, Bobby Baldwin, Gus Hansen, Patrik Antonius, Tony Guoga, Bertrand Grospelier, among several others.
